Over the past few months, I have tested many cordless vacuum cleaners from various manufacturers, spanning a wide price range. Each had its pros and cons. If I were to summarize the series of reviews with one comment, it would be that the most expensive one wasn’t necessarily the best. In today’s video, I want to summarize the series and give you some tips on what to consider when choosing a cordless vacuum cleaner for yourself. This will be quite an extensive material, but I’ll focus on the main elements of such a vacuum cleaner. The choice will be up to you.

Suction Power

Suction power is one of the key aspects to consider when choosing a cordless vacuum cleaner. This parameter directly affects the cleaning efficiency, i.e., the ability of the device to collect dust, dirt, and other debris from various surfaces. In cordless vacuum cleaners, suction power is often lower than in traditional corded models, so it’s crucial to look closely at what a given model offers.

Suction power is expressed in air watts (AW) or other units of measurement, depending on the manufacturer. High-quality cordless vacuum cleaners can offer suction power comparable to their corded counterparts. It’s worth noting whether the manufacturer provides this value and comparing it with other models available on the market.

A very practical solution is the ability to adjust the suction power. This allows you to adapt the suction strength to the type of surface being cleaned. For example, carpets and rugs require higher power to effectively remove dirt from the deeper layers of fibers, while hard floors such as wood or tiles can be efficiently cleaned at lower power, which also contributes to energy savings.

It’s important to remember that higher suction power usually comes with greater battery consumption. Therefore, it’s essential to find a balance between suction power and the vacuum’s operating time. Some modern models offer work modes that automatically adjust the suction power to the type of surface, optimizing both cleaning efficiency and energy consumption. During my tests of various vacuum cleaners, I noticed that the brush, or more precisely, the turbo brush, is very important. Vacuuming with other attachments is not as effective as using the turbo brush, which compensates even for lower vacuum power, allowing weaker devices to perform well.

Operating and Charging Time

The operating and charging times of a cordless vacuum cleaner are equally important parameters that affect the comfort and efficiency of use. When purchasing a cordless vacuum cleaner, it’s worth taking a close look at how long the device can run on a single charge, how long it takes to fully charge the battery, and the cost of an additional battery. Battery prices can range from 50 to even 500 euro depending on the model and manufacturer. Sometimes you can catch a sale or special promotion where the manufacturer adds an extra battery for free or at a significant discount.

The operating time of a cordless vacuum cleaner on a single charge is crucial, especially if you plan to clean larger areas or want the vacuum to be always ready for quick use. The standard operating time can range from 20 to 60 minutes, depending on the model and suction power settings. Models offering longer operating times are generally more versatile, allowing for cleaning larger areas without frequent interruptions for recharging.

Most modern cordless vacuum cleaners offer several suction power modes. Higher power settings are more energy-intensive, which can shorten the device’s operating time. Therefore, it’s worth choosing a model that offers various work modes, allowing you to adjust the suction power to your current needs. For example, for daily vacuuming of hard floors, you can use lower power settings, saving higher settings for more demanding tasks like vacuuming carpets. Some models I tested were equipped with so-called smart automatic modes, where special sensors automatically adjusted the device’s power. However, in practice, the device often revved up to maximum power, and I lacked a full battery to vacuum a 75-square-meter house.

Charging time is another crucial aspect. Traditional cordless vacuum cleaners can take 3 to 5 hours to fully charge the battery. Models with fast-charging technology can significantly reduce this time, which is beneficial for users who need to quickly restore the vacuum to full readiness. It’s worth checking the manufacturer’s specifications and user reviews regarding the actual charging time.

Some cordless vacuum cleaner models offer replaceable batteries, which can be very practical. Having an additional charged battery ready allows for nearly continuous cleaning without interruptions for recharging. This is especially useful in larger homes or situations where the vacuum is used intensively. However, don’t forget to check the cost of an additional battery. They can range from 50 euro to several thousand.

Dust Bin Capacity

In cordless vacuum cleaners, unlike traditional corded models, the dust bin capacity is usually smaller. This is due to the need to maintain the compact dimensions and lightness of the device, which is one of the main advantages of this type of equipment. Standard dust bin capacities in cordless vacuum cleaners range from 0.4 to 1 liter. Smaller bins require more frequent emptying, which can be inconvenient during longer cleaning sessions. Therefore, when choosing a vacuum cleaner, it’s worth considering how often you plan to use it and how large the areas you will be cleaning are.

Frequent emptying of the bin may be less problematic in smaller apartments, where the amount of dust and dirt collected is relatively small. In larger homes or with more intensive use, a larger bin capacity will be more practical, allowing for longer cleaning without the need to stop and empty the bin. It’s worth paying attention to the ease of emptying the bin. The best models offer intuitive mechanisms that allow for quick and hygienic disposal of collected debris without contact with dust. Many modern cordless vacuum cleaners have click-and-empty systems that enable easy removal of the bin contents without scattering dust. However, I have also tested devices that were problematic to clean.

Another aspect to consider is the material of the bin. Transparent bins allow for easy monitoring of the fill level, enabling the user to assess when it needs to be emptied. Additionally, vacuum cleaners with HEPA filters or other advanced filtration systems can better protect against the release of fine dust particles during bin emptying, which is particularly important for allergy sufferers.

It’s also worth noting that some cordless vacuum cleaner models offer special workstations that empty the vacuum’s bin into a special bag each time the device is docked.

Weight and Ergonomics

The lightness of a cordless vacuum cleaner is one of its greatest advantages compared to traditional, heavier corded models. Typically, the weight of cordless vacuum cleaners ranges from 2 to 3 kilograms, making them easy to carry and maneuver. Lightweight vacuums are ideal for quick cleaning and easy transport between different rooms. This makes cleaning less tiring, especially in multi-level homes where frequent carrying of the device up and down stairs is necessary. The lightweight design also facilitates cleaning hard-to-reach areas, such as under furniture or high shelves.

The ergonomics of a cordless vacuum cleaner, or the way the device is designed for user comfort, is of great importance. An ergonomic handle ensures a firm grip and minimizes strain on the hands and wrists during cleaning. Good models offer adjustable handles that can be tailored to the user’s height, preventing excessive bending and reducing the risk of back pain. An important element of ergonomics is also the placement of control buttons. They should be easily accessible and intuitive to operate, allowing for quick switching between work modes or adjusting the suction power without interrupting cleaning. A great solution is the ability to lock the joint to stand the vacuum upright in any place. However, I have only encountered this solution once so far.

The maneuverability of a cordless vacuum cleaner is another important factor. Models with a swivel joint allow for easy maneuvering around furniture and in tight spaces. Flexible hoses and extension tubes further increase the device’s reach, allowing for convenient cleaning of hard-to-reach areas, such as behind furniture or under low beds. Some cordless vacuum cleaners are equipped with additional wheels, making it easier to move the device across the floor, reducing the effort needed to clean large areas.

Another aspect of ergonomics is the balance of the device. A well-balanced cordless vacuum cleaner is easier to hold and maneuver, enhancing user comfort. Some models have a centrally placed motor, helping to evenly distribute the weight and ease handling. It’s also important that the vacuum is equipped with a convenient storage system. Models with wall mounts or docking stations allow for easy storage of the device where it is always ready to use.

In practice, I didn’t enjoy vacuuming with a device heavier than 2.5 kilograms. My hand simply gets tired quickly. The ideal device for me should also have an adjustable tube length, a fairly agile brush joint, and a switch that activates once instead of a button that you have to hold.

Accessories and Additional Features

Various brushes and attachments are some of the most important accessories that can significantly impact cleaning efficiency. Some manufacturers include a complete set of brushes with the device, while others charge a hefty price for each additional brush. Carpet brushes equipped with rotating elements allow for thorough cleaning of deep fiber layers, removing even the smallest debris. Brushes for hard floors, made of delicate materials, are ideal for cleaning parquet, panels, or tiles without scratching them. Narrow crevice tools allow access to hard-to-reach places, such as spaces between furniture or floor edges.

Mini-turbo brushes are another useful addition, especially for cleaning upholstery, mattresses, or car interiors. These small, rotating brushes effectively remove pet hair, dust, and other debris from soft surfaces. Additional extension tubes and flexible hoses allow for convenient cleaning of high shelves, curtains, and tight corners.

Docking stations and wall mounts are accessories that make it easier to store and charge the vacuum cleaner. Docking stations not only enable easy charging but often come with storage spaces for additional accessories. A wall mount saves space and keeps the vacuum ready to use.

Useful additional features of a cordless vacuum cleaner include the ability to mop. Vacuums equipped with this feature can simultaneously vacuum and wash floors, which is especially useful in homes with large areas of hard floors. This functionality saves time and increases cleaning efficiency.

HEPA filters are another important feature, especially for allergy sufferers. These filters trap fine dust particles, pollen, and other allergens, ensuring cleaner air in the home. HEPA filters are particularly effective in homes where people suffer from allergies or asthma.

Some cordless vacuum cleaner models offer replaceable batteries, which is extremely practical, especially during longer cleaning sessions. The ability to quickly swap batteries allows for continuous work without interruptions for recharging. This solution is ideal for large homes or intensive use.

The automatic suction power adjustment feature is another innovation often marketed as “artificial intelligence” (once the favorite marketing term was innovation, now it’s AI). This feature optimizes energy consumption by automatically adjusting the suction power based on the type of surface, increasing cleaning efficiency and saving battery life.

Built-in LED lighting in brushes is another useful addition, making it easier to clean dark areas such as under furniture or in closets. LED lights allow you to see exactly where the dust and dirt are, making cleaning more thorough. A recent innovation is the use of strong laser light, which proved to be very effective in practice.

Modern cordless vacuum cleaners often offer integration with mobile apps, allowing users to monitor the device’s status, schedule cleaning, and control functions from their smartphone. These technological solutions increase user convenience and enable more efficient vacuum management. However, in my opinion, this is completely unnecessary.

Noise Level

The noise level generated by a cordless vacuum cleaner is an important factor affecting the comfort of using the device. A loud vacuum can be bothersome not only for the user but also for other household members and even neighbors in apartment buildings.

Cordless vacuum cleaners typically emit noise levels ranging from 60 to 80 decibels (dB). Models with lower noise levels (around 60-65 dB) are much more comfortable for daily use, as the noise level is similar to a normal conversation. Noise levels of 70-75 dB are comparable to playing music or a working television. Noise levels above 75 dB can be quite annoying, especially during extended cleaning sessions.

Some modern cordless vacuum cleaner models are equipped with noise reduction technologies that minimize sound emissions. Special soundproof housings, quiet motors, and optimized airflow contribute to noise reduction, making vacuuming less annoying.

A quiet vacuum cleaner is particularly useful in homes with small children, elderly people, or pets who may be sensitive to loud noises. Moreover, a lower noise level allows for cleaning at any time of day without disturbing the peace of household members or neighbors.

When choosing a cordless vacuum cleaner, it’s worth paying attention to the manufacturer’s specifications regarding noise levels and checking user reviews that can provide practical information on the actual noise levels generated by the device.

Price and Warranty

The price of a cordless vacuum cleaner is one of the key factors influencing the purchase decision. There are models available on the market in a wide price range, from budget to high-end premium devices. The price of a cordless vacuum cleaner usually reflects its quality, additional features, and brand.

Budget models can cost from 50 to 100 euro, offering basic functions and lower suction power. They are suitable for those who need a simple solution for daily cleaning of small areas. In the mid-price range, from 150 to 400 euro, you can find vacuums with better suction power, longer battery life, and a greater number of accessories and additional features such as HEPA filters or various cleaning attachments.

Premium models, costing above 400 and even 1000 euro, offer the highest quality construction, advanced technologies, and a complete set of accessories. In this category, you often find vacuums equipped with mopping functions, replaceable batteries, automatic suction power adjustment, and mobile app integration. These devices are suitable for demanding users who expect maximum performance and comfort. However, after testing cheaper and more expensive models, I would most likely give up unnecessary extras and buy a cheaper model and equip it with additional accessories like brushes or another battery.

The warranty also plays an important role when choosing a cordless vacuum cleaner. The standard warranty for vacuums usually lasts up to 2 years, but some brands offer longer warranty periods, up to 5 years. Before purchasing, it’s worth checking the warranty conditions to ensure that it covers the most important components of the vacuum, such as the motor, battery, and main components. Often, the battery has a different warranty period than the rest of the device.

It’s also good to check the availability of after-sales service and potential costs of repairs or spare parts. Reputable brands usually offer better customer service and easy access to authorized service centers, which can be crucial in case of device failure.

Conclusion

Choosing the right cordless vacuum cleaner requires considering several key aspects that affect the comfort and efficiency of cleaning. Firstly, pay attention to the suction power, which determines the device’s effectiveness. The operating and charging times of the battery are crucial, especially in larger homes. The dust bin capacity affects the frequency of emptying, which is important for user convenience. The ergonomics and weight of the vacuum determine its maneuverability and ease of use. Accessories and additional features, such as various brushes, HEPA filters, mopping functions, or LED lighting, can significantly increase the versatility of the device. A low noise level ensures user comfort, and the right price and warranty guarantee long-term satisfaction with the purchase. When choosing a vacuum cleaner, it’s worth thoroughly analyzing these factors to find the best model that meets individual needs. It’s certainly not worth being guided by price alone. During the device tests, I found that the most expensive does not always mean the best. Not all solutions also work in practice, and it’s not worth paying extra for them.
