Diamond Black Cube is a technology used by Kohersen in a new series of pots and pans that have just hit the market. How do they work in practice and is it worth buying? About it in today’s material. I received the 24 cm pot from Kohersen for review.
We can buy a pot of various diameters. Each set includes a dedicated cover and a special black storage case. The Kohersen pot is made of stainless steel and comes in silver (inox). However, what the manufacturer boasts the most is the double-sided Black Cube surface with a Diamond coating.
What’s the biggest advantage? A pot made in this technology should be hardened before the first use. As a result, it becomes scratch-resistant, does not absorb odors, prevents food from sticking, and is resistant to various acids released from products during cooking, and allows the use of a minimum amount of fat for cooking.
However, it is not a cheap pot, because the one with a diameter of 24 cm and a capacity of almost 5 liters costs nearly PLN 450. For comparison, for half of this price we can buy a set of 4 pots made in traditional technology. Is it worth it? How did all of this work in practice?
Kohersen Diamond Black Cube pot – in practice and hardening
As I mentioned at the beginning of this article, you should harden this vessel before using it for the first time. First, they should be thoroughly washed to remove the transport coating. After carefully wiping, put the pot on the stove, add a teaspoon of vegetable oil and heat it up. After about two minutes the process is complete, but I was still carefully moving the pot so that the oil thoroughly covered its surface. After being washed again, the Kohersen pot is ready for use.
You can use it with a gas, induction, electric, ceramic, halogen stove. It can also be placed in the oven (maximum 260 degrees Celsius) or cleaned in the dishwasher.
I immediately noticed that the surface of the Diamond Black Cube covers the pot almost completely, on both sides. It heats up much faster than ordinary metal dishes, so the dishes themselves are also made faster. The manufacturer recommends that you always heat the pot to medium temperature. We can check if it is suitable by pouring a few drops of water into an empty vessel. If the water starts splashing and rolling on the bottom – it means that the vessel is hot enough to start cooking or frying. If the water evaporates immediately, the temperature is too high and should be reduced.
I decided to trust the manufacturer and followed the instructions to prepare the first dish in a new pot. I just wanted to have stewed vegetables served with salmon and fries. I used the Kohersen food processor to prepare the vegetables, which I will describe in a separate material. The vegetables, chopped in various ways, ended up in the pot without adding any water or oil. According to the instructions, I put the lid on the pot and after some time I mixed it up.
I have to admit that the effect was great. Nothing stuck to the bottom, although it is known – vegetables contain quite a lot of water. However, their taste was quite interesting. The sweetness of the carrot was very clear and the whole thing was very delicate. This tempted me to burn some meat in the pot for the sauce. I burnt the meat without using any oil and was pleasantly surprised. Nothing stuck, which I could also see later when washing by hand (unfortunately I don’t have a dishwasher).
Kohersen Diamond Black Cube pot – cleaning
The manufacturer praises that after the pot has been properly hardened, it can be cleaned in a very simple way. If something burns – just add water and boil it. During a short cooking process, it will all go away by itself. I made mini fries using a different device. They turned out to be an epic fail, so I wanted to quickly fry them in a pot without oil. Of course, I fry for so long that they eventually burned and stuck. I added water and almost immediately the burnt potato fragments detached themselves from the surface of the pot. In the instruction manual, we can find information that the pot can be washed with a wire brush and the rough side of a sponge, and that you can use sharp cutlery during cooking without fear of scratching and damaging the surface. I ran over the pot with a steel wire cloth, but I did it quite delicately. There was no scratch on the surface. For comparison – in a recently tested electric grill from another company, I accidentally wiped Teflon from the grate with a steel wire.
Kohersen Diamond Black Cube pot – pros and cons
An undoubted advantage of the pot is the fact that it looks great and is quite light (1.5 kg). The appearance of the coating is impressive and differs from other pots in the kitchen. You just can’t get them confused. It is actually harder for food to stick to the coating, and when you pour the liquid, you can see how it is repelled – like water on a car paint, freshly waxed. It is easy to wash, allows for faster cooking and is quite spacious, which makes it possible to prepare a dinner for a family of several people. If someone does not like or does not have a microwave oven, it is perfect for reheating previously cooked items. The set includes a cover that allows, among others for stewing dishes.
However, the biggest downside of this pot is its price. 450 PLN is quite a lot considering that it is only one pot for cooking and to equip your kitchen for different occasions you would have to buy several pieces of different diameters. This is a very large expense, and we also sell only 3 versions of such pots (20, 24, 28 centimeters, which gives 2.8L, 4.9L and 8.3L respectively).
