In today’s article, I am testing the latest Gotie device – the GGP-3000 Smart steam station. How does it work in practice and is it worth buying?
The world is divided into three types of people – those who like to iron, don’t like to iron, and those who have no choice but to do. At home, ironing was always done when putting the laundry from the dryer. However, due to laziness, I quickly changed my habit and iron what I want to wear every morning. I must admit that at first I did not like ironing very much – we simply did not use irons with the steam function, because the tap water had a lot of limescale. The effect was always the same – frequent cleaning and clogging of the device.
Dry and wet ironing
Dry ironing is not pleasant and takes quite a long time. I also remember working solutions in the style of a flower sprinkler – I had one at home dedicated to sprinkling the pressed material. This may sound unusual, but it has worked well over the years. Nowadays, we can buy a water filtering jug in almost every store, and after softening it, use it for everything (including the iron). In addition, the new ironing devices have sophisticated auto cleaning systems that work great also with hard water. So what is the difference between irons and steam stations? Apart from, of course, the appearance and power (although there are no such big differences here), mainly the impact force and the amount of steam that such a device can generate. It is also fashionable to add smart functions so that the equipment additionally stands out on the market.
The iron that I have had for 5 years works very well all the time and I am happy with it. The only thing that started to irritate me after many years was dripping water from the hole through which it is poured into the iron. However, many people praise all kinds of steam stations and I started to wonder if it might be time for a change? To help answer this question, the future Gotie company, from which I received the GGP-3000 Smart steam station for testing.
GOTIE GGP-3000 – first impressions
The steam station looks very elegant, although at first glance it reminded me of curling. Do you know the sport in which the competitor glides over the ice sheet and releases such discs by holding their grip? Exactly. The steam station is a combination of two colors – black and gold, so it’s a classic reference to elegance. In short, the device is nice but quite large. Its base is the largest – it holds up to 1.5 liters of water, which in theory should be enough for 2 hours of non-stop ironing.
Water is poured in through the opening on the front of the device. Interestingly, the set also includes a special container that makes it easier to add water. However, it has a capacity of less than 190 ml, which means that we need almost 8 courses for water to replenish the steam station from zero to full.
The steam station has a fairly long cable connecting the base to the iron itself, but in my opinion, the manufacturer should use a longer cable for the power supply itself. I am ironing in the bathroom, where I only have one power socket. In the current iron, this was not a problem (the cord is long enough), but in this case I had to use an extension cord.
What I noticed is a clever way to lock your device. The iron is placed in the base station on special silicone insets. At the front of the station, we have the option of putting out a special latch that catches on the nose of the iron. Thanks to this, it cannot be removed or accidentally dropped.
GOTIE GGP-3000 – in use
The iron is quite light, which makes ironing much easier. The steam cable connecting the iron to the docking station is flexible and of the right length. There are no problems when ironing on a regular board or vertically. I am very used to placing the iron vertically during ironing, e.g. whenever I move the fabric on the ironing board. This is not possible here, because the device cannot be put away in a position other than flat on the docking station. It bothered me a bit.
The iron has 3000W of power, which means that it takes just 15 seconds to be ready for operation immediately after switching on. During operation, the device generates up to 130 grams of steam per minute, and the strong burst function is up to 400 grams per minute. However, to use steam ironing, keep the button pressed all the time. It is located under the handle of the iron. I would prefer it to be able to simply turn on this function without having to keep the button pressed, which is not so convenient in the long run. To use the possibility of a strong burst of steam – just press this button twice quickly. It is reasonably intuitive and works well.
The iron also has a built-in function display. We can see on it, among others cleaning indicator, no water, eco mode, sleep indicator or steam mode (it only informs us whether it is on or not, and whether we have activated the steam boost function). What I didn’t really like was the inability to set its temperature. The manufacturer explains this by using the Smart Power function, thanks to which the iron detects the type of fabric being ironed and automatically adjusts the operating temperature on this basis. However, I would prefer to have full control over this element.
It is also worth mentioning the additional functions of the Gotie GGP-3000. The device is equipped with an Anti-drip system to prevent dripping. Here, however, I have a small note – when we warm up the device and activate the steam mode (by pressing the button under the handle), the device gently lets water droplets pass before the steam enters the channels. This problem no longer exists. However, this means that when you start ironing over the fabric, it will often be slightly wet.
The steam station also has an automatic descaling function along with a signal when it should be performed. We also have a water shortage indicator that tells us when to refill the water in the docking station.
GOTIE GGP-3000 – Okay, but how does it iron?
Here, I can boldly say that it irons very well – both vertically and horizontally.
