Trust FYRU GXT 258 is a microphone dedicated to all people who need great voice quality in internet transmissions. How does it work in practice? About it in today’s review.

The Trust FYRU GXT 258 comes in a fairly large box. Inside there is a microphone with a metal tripod. The whole thing looks great, even in the box itself. The quality of the materials is at a very high level.

Before starting the equipment, attach it to a mini tripod. We do it using the screw included in the set. I noticed that one of the legs of the tripod can extend. Thanks to this solution, we can set the microphone according to the situation. When we stream and speak to our viewers – extending the foot will tilt the microphone towards us, thanks to which it will be even better to collect our words, not the surroundings. If we want to record sound, e.g. a conversation of two people or gathering more people in a conference room – we can easily place the microphone vertically so that the sound reaches it in the same way from all sides.

Trust FYRU GXT 258 has a built-in pop-filter (so-called explosive filings), edge illumination in 5 colors (blue, green, purple, yellow and white), a control panel at the top and controls in the form of knobs on the front.

The knob above is used to adjust the sensitivity of the microphone. When we press it, it lights up in red, which symbolizes the mute of our voice. This is a great thing, because I have seen streamers many times, I also found myself saying that I had to mute the microphone on the emergency phone or a guest in the room and then forgot to turn it on for a few minutes. The indicator light on the Trust FYRU GXT 258 allows you to quickly see if you are muted or not.

The second knob is the headphone volume control. Yes – headphones, because right below this knob is the line input for headphones. FYRU GXT 258 allows you to connect headphones to them and have quick control over them so that you do not have to dive into the housing.

Another thing worth describing is the top module of this microphone. It consists of 4 small LEDs and a central “Mode” button. This is a well-thought-out function of switching between the microphone characteristics. I like a smart solution, and these are certainly one of those.

What is it about? The microphone supports 4 ways of working:

  • Cardioid, thanks to which it only records the sound reaching it from the front. This is perfect for streaming, shared games, podcasts, voice-over and singing. The microphone simply mutes the background, focusing on what is coming directly from us.
  • Stereo, thanks to which it expands to the sides the area from which it is able to register sound. Then it uses the left-right channel, which allows you to record, among others playing instruments.
  • bi-directional, thanks to which the microphone records what is happening in front of and behind it, completely ignoring the sides. As you can guess, it will be great for interviews or recording duo singing. We just put the microphone between two people, turn on this mode, and head to head.
  • 360 degrees, thanks to which the device records everything that is happening around it. This setting will work well when recording, for example, a meeting to catch the voices of all interlocutors well, or for an ambient recording, when we want to reproduce as much of what is happening in the background.

If I have already explained what modes the microphone supports, let’s return to the topic of their signaling. How do we know what mode we are currently in? The manufacturer placed 4 LEDs around the Mode button. Depending on the activated mode – only the one or those that signal the direction of sound recording will light up. Mega simple but so useful, huh? So, if the LED on our side is lit – the device is in cardioid mode. If on our part and on the other hand – both-directionally, etc.

It should be mentioned that the microphone is able to reproduce sound in 24 bit / 96kHz quality, so it’s even more than you need in streaming, but it will be great for voice-overs. It transmits sound in the 30 to 18,000 Hz band. This means it will record both the bass (bass) and details on the top.

How does all of this work in practice? How long did it take me to run it out of the box? From the moment it was opened, taken out, screwed and connected – less than 2 minutes and the equipment could be used. Thanks to the USB cable – just plug it into the computer and the system will prepare everything from the machine. Mega easy.

And what does the topic look like next? The microphone records cleanly, noise-free and produces high-quality sound, although it forces the boost to the maximum level in both the operating system and the knob. Otherwise it would be quite quiet. There is no auto-gain option here, because sometimes streamers can laugh out loud or cough, causing hearing paralysis in their viewers. Here, distortion is easy only when we speak to the microphone almost with our mouth against it. But rather, you will not do this during use (because what for?)

Unfortunately, but despite setting the microphone to record only my voice – I could easily hear the annoying click of the mechanic’s keys behind the microphone. But the overall sound quality is impressive. I also tested it by calling different people via messenger. Each of them agreed that I can hear me much better than on the phone, unambiguously giving an average of 8.5 out of 10. The rating was lowered when I was sitting in a normal position in front of the computer, and it grew when I approached the microphone unnaturally (gain).

Summary

Trust FYRU GXT 258 is a piece of good equipment that will be helpful for every streamer or person recording sound for movies. It could have a slightly stronger gain, but the test results are very good anyway. You can safely recommend it.
