KFA2 Sonar 04 are budget headphones with RGB backlight and a microphone dedicated to gamers. How do they work in practice and is it worth buying? Review, opinions.
KFA2 Sonar 04 – introduction
Sonar 04 is another equipment designed for players from the KFA2 company, which is just entering the Polish market. The headphones are compatible with all devices that support USB sound transmission: PC, Mac, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, PS4, PS5 or Nintendo Switch. They can use 7.1-channel sound (the so-called virtual surround sound obtained from the dedicated XGear application). On paper they can also boast a fairly large tonal range – from 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz, which sounds suspiciously too good.
Headphone design
The headphones are quite large and made entirely of plastic. It has a matte black color and illuminated parts of the earpiece. On both sides, the manufacturer’s large logo and their overall massiveness are noticeable. However, despite the fairly large size, they are quite light. I practically do not feel them on my head at all.
The earmuff part is trimmed with eco leather, just like the headband support. The manufacturer has used a thicker sponge here, thanks to which nothing will press my head during longer use of KFA2 Sonar 04. The headphones can of course be adjusted in two ways – the headbands can be extended by a few centimeters, while the earmuffs themselves gently tilt to the shape of the head.
The headphones fit the ears quite well and cover them quite tightly. This does not significantly reduce the noise level, but also allows you to listen to music a bit quieter, even in a slightly noisy environment.
What I noticed was that after a few hours in the headphones, my ears were warm. I’m writing the review in mid-October, but on a summer day I would certainly have to take them off every now and then to avoid a sweaty head.
KFA2 Sonar 04 microphone
The manufacturer led the microphone from the left handset. It is mounted on a fairly rigid, metal headband with a backlit microphone tip. It is so long that we can easily place it in front of the mouth at the right distance. What I didn’t like was its backlight. It lights up gently all the time, unless you decide to turn off the headphone backlight completely. A much better solution would be to signal a color change (e.g. from blue to red) when we switch the microphone mute option. That way, it would be easier to know that we forgot to turn the microphone on while trying to say something. Here we have a uniform backlight that does not react in any way to the mute button. We also can’t detach the microphone, but in my opinion that is a plus. I have several different headphones in which I once detached such a module and to this day I cannot find it.
How does the microphone work? Very good. I used these headphones on several teleconferences and my interlocutors heard me perfectly and very clearly.
